Hurricanes:
The huge Banderas Bay ('Bay of Flags')
is considered Puerto Vallarta's natural protection
against hurricanes, but doesn't make us immune
to them. The first hurricane in over 50 years
side-swiped Vallarta in October of 1991, and while
the 2-hour wind-storm caused only realively minor
damage, the following surge waves washed out many
a beach restaurant, a few hotel lobbies, and parts
of the Malecòn. The weather was beautiful
the next day, all was put back together again
very quickly and better than before, and Puerto
Vallarta won't be worrying about another hurricane
for another few decades.
